Adobe InDesign CS4 is one of the best, if not the best software for all desktop publishing needs. InDesign CS4 comes packed with many features that allow great flexibility and creativity plus technical elements which are helpful in increasing productivity. For those who have used InDesign CS3, there will be apparent similarities as well as major differences and upgrades. For example, what was once called palettes is now referred to as panels - which are located in the new adjustment panel area.
For those who are not coders, they will most definitely appreciate the new export of SWL and XFL Flash files. The feature is simple to use and opens up a wide range of possibilities, such as creating an interactive PDF. Hyperlinks also got easier to create in CS4. A hyperlink can simply be added by putting the URL in the hyperlink field. Additionally, there is an option to have the link jump to other areas within the document or have the link open up an email client.
A true saver is the Live Preflight in Adobe InDesign CS4 software. First the user creates a profile; the profile can be as simple or detailed as need be. Once the profile is created, the user than can turn on the Live Preflight tool; so while they are working in the document, Preflight will check in real-time to note any errors or discrepancies within the document. If there are any conflicts in the documents parameters, a sound will alert the user - allowing for an instant fix, versus at the end while reviewing the finished product. Live Preflight can be fully customized based upon the user's specifications.
Conditional Text is a feature that will allow the user to create several versions of text based off of one source, all in the same document. Conditions are created by the user and can be turned on or off - allowing for certain parts of the text to be seen, while other parts are hidden. Links are much easier to find and manage in the new Links Panel. In the Link Panel is where the user will be able to find all links located in a tree hierarchy. To bring up more information on a particular link in the panel, simply click on the thumbnail which will display details and type.
Another feature that deserves a mention is Smart Text Reflow. With Text Reflow, users are able to add or remove pages while typing, changing text flow or hiding conditions. Then finally with Connect Now, via Share My Screen, users are able to conduct meetings and show projects in CS4. Share My Screen also allows for the others to gain control over the computer temporarily.
This is only a small introduction to just a few of the features that was made for Adobe's InDesign CS4. There are tons extensive and intuitive features that come packaged with this dynamic software.
